Sagrada Familia

I haven’t had so much experience with South-Europe so far. I was always more attached to the east and far-east. But Barcelona certainly changed my mind about what there is to expect from the south. I mean we don’t even have to mention the food! I live with a Spanish girl and she constantly gets the finest oil and ham from her parents. And we don’t have to mention the weather, I rather not, I live in Hamburg!

And we don’t have to mention the weather, I rather not, I live in Hamburg!

But the curious mix of people the whole way of patchwork that is there to see. And the places! What culminates it all is the Sagrada Familia: the church of churches and icon of Barca! The sacred place is like the town. Antonio Gaudí started to build it in 1883 and to be quite frank it’s not finished quite yet. They were always running out of money and maybe they were lacking motivation, too. There is a mix of styles and new technologies that are visible. The newest parts are compiled of poured concrete, and that surely wasn’t possible back in the days. Funny enough, while new parts are built the old ones have to be restored and are under construction…again. Some corners look totally new and others had to suffer by the never ending stream of tourists. It is quite a place and you should take plenty of cameras and time with you when you take the Sagrada Familia on!
