A Letter to My Canon EOS 88

12

I wanted a different approach on writing a review, so instead of the typical article, I wrote a letter for my Canon EOS 88.

Dear Dos,

First of all I want to thank you for all those wonderful shots you have given me. You gave me the opportunity to have my photo on the selected section and also you are the reason that I won a rumble. You are my second analog camera and you have thought me a lot,you are one of the reasons why I continue to shoot film.

I want you to know that I admire you for being both simple and sophisticated. Simple because you have all those icons like face for portrait, mountain for landscape, flower for close up, a sports icon, and the green square for the fully automatic setting, you are surely a user-friendly camera for beginners. Sophisticated because you have all those other settings that are for more advanced users, P for Program, Tv for Speed Priority, Av for aperture priority, and M for full manual.

I was surprised when I saw your wide range of ISO settings, because I know only few analog cameras can range from ISO 6 to ISO 6400. Having auto focus, auto wind, multiple exposure up to 9 times, a built in flash and a hotshoe, what more could I ask of you?

And my favorite thing about you is your hidden ability that I just discovered recently: the ability to capture multiple action in a single frame. By having you set for multiple exposure and holding the shutter button, your fast lens continuously captures multiple actions in a single frame. How cool is that? I know I have yet to develop it but I believe soon we will both enhance that technique.

Again, thank you for being a wonderful camera. I promise that when I get to have extra money, I will bring you to a camera repair shop and have you cleaned and lubricated, or even buy you a new lens. I Hope that in the future we will have lots of more adventures to come. That’s all and for the nth time, thanks!

Your contented friend/user,

Teo

    Dear Teo,

P mode is not program. It is Professional mode.

    Love,
    Dos

I just found the same camera at home (EOS 3000 = EOS 88). That's also the reason I became a memeber of lomography and began taking pictures. Thanks for the review, it's great! :)
