Nikon F80: An Awesome Camera with Unlimited Possibilities
8 15 Share TweetThere are many wonderful cameras out there and some can do amazing stuff, but usually they can do only this or that. With the Nikon F80 you can do everything you can imagine, have fun and work like a pro! All in the same camera!
First of all, I’ll tell you why I want to review this camera so much. This was the camera that introduced me to photography and encouraged me to study it in a professional level. It gave me the opportunity to experiment and take wonderful photographs, just like a pro would. I can say that I really owe this camera a lot, because without it maybe I wouldn’t be a photographer right now.
The Nikon F80 or N80 as you may know it (depending on the area you live, Europe or America) is a wonderful SLR 35 mm cameras that was first sold in 2000. At that time it was one of the finest cameras you could get if you were into photography but were not a pro. Today, it remains a really fine camera to buy and start photography with.
So, what can you do with this camera? You can do almost anything. One of the main features you get is that despite being electric, it allows you full manual control over your exposures. That means you can choose the ISO setting, the aperture and the shutter speed as you wish and on behalf of your photos; many electric cameras don’t allow you that much amount of control, they let you choose aperture and speed but they read the ISO setting with the code of the film. With that alone, you have a huge amount of creative control.
It is a considerably fast camera, it can shoot at 2.5 fps. If you like getting the best moment out of sports or sudden movements, this camera can help you a lot. It may not be that fast as those who have a motor drive, but it is quite acceptable.
One advantage you get when using the Nikon F80 is that it can function as a semi automatic, that means that you can use the shutter or the aperture priority setting while the camera worries about the rest. This is quite useful when the depth of field or the movement is important for your images.
Also, this camera this camera has a built-in flash that you can use when the light may not be favorable to you. It has a great strength and functions in an easy way. You won’t worry no more when you find something incredible to shoot but the light and the time are not the right ones. If you want to use a separate flash, you should know that its sync-speed is 1/125.
Now that we’re talking about light, i’ll like to talk about the exposure meter that this camera has. It works great, it is quite precise and makes an accurate measure of the light. Also you can use with three settings: spot meter, matrix metering and center weighted metering. This is a exposure meter that you can really rely on.
One thing that I should mention about the camera and that may be a drawback, is that you can’t use Infrared film with it, this is because it uses a IR beam for measuring the film advance. That’s kind of disappointing, but unless you’re using IR film a lot, this camera is a great partner.
Let’s talk about the fun part. This camera allows to make multiple exposures and has a bulb setting! This means you can experiment a lot and get great results! Also, the shutter speeds can vary from 30" to 1/4000!
You shouldn’t worry about image quality with this camera, because as it uses Nikkor lenses, the images come out real sharp, with great contrast and colors.
Now, for closure, let me tell you about the body. This camera has the body that later was used as the basis of Nikon’s DSLR cameras! Also Fujifilm and Kodak used it for their cameras!
This is a very flexible camera that I’ve owned for almost 4 years now, i’ve shot with it a lot and the results have been great! With this camera you can experiment and get funny, weird images or you can do more serious stuff like portraits or landscapes and the results won’t disappoint you. Believe me, I give you my word.
