Foma Fomapan 100 (35mm, ISO 100): Affordable B&W Film with a Warm Look

The Fomapan 100 transports you back into the past with great black and white images. Learn more about this film and take a look at some sample photos after the jump!

The Fomapan 100 is one of the most affordable black and white films on the market. In addition to the 35mm format, it is also available as a medium format film. This good film is produced by the company Foma.

This company has been manufacturing photographic materials since the 1920s. With 400 employees, the company in Hradec Kralove manufactures the films today. The full name of the company is now “FOMA BOHEMIA spol. s r.o.”

The Foma Fomapan 100 is similar to the sensational Agfa APX 100 from Agfa. It creates pretty balanced images with good contrast. Compared to other ISO 100 films, it’s a bit grainy.

If you scan the film as color film, you get a nice sepia tones. This makes the photos look a little bit older.
Despite the relatively low price, it delivers a good sharpness.

I developed it in Rodinal for 8 minutes. What happens when it is developed at the drugstore, I cannot say, because I develop all the Fomapan films that I have. Another feature of this black and white film: the Fomapan can be cut into strips after development and is easier to scan. I scanned the photos above shot with the extraordinarily great Canonet 28.

If you are looking for a cheap black and white film with a warm look, you should look for the Fomapan 100. If you need higher sensitivity, you can look for the Fomapan 400. In the U.S. it is also sold as Arista EDU Ultra.
