Exile Parade Shooting Their Roadshow Trip with LC-Wide

The UK Band Exile Parade just had a road show tour in Beijing this August. We met him and gave them an LC-Wide, hoping to explore the backstage more and interesting live shots when they are standing on the stage. Let us see what they have shot so far!

1. Tell all the Lomographers about Exile Parade. What do you do for a living?

Lomax: Ive had a lot of different jobs since leaving school, now im a tree surgeon. I also do the odd bit of labouring on farms and various other places. Phil currently works as a sub editor for our town’s newspaper. Chris sends technical support out to fix peoples computers, I forget who the company is. Dave works on project management for British Waterways, and Mutchy is at a supermarket. You’ve got to pay your way, I tried being a struggling musician on the dole, and its fucking miserable let me tell you.

2. How did you get yourself into this industry, since when and why?

Lomax: Personally I’ve been into music, being a frontman, singer, writing songs and whatever since I was about 15. We all embarked on our artistic hike in our teens but it wasn’t until we finally met and started Exile Parade that you could loosely use the term ‘industry’ but yes I suppose we are. For me it was a calling and still is, I don’t really think of much else, not through choice its just there, it just makes perfect sense, the only thing that does. I know the lads all have similar stories about coming into playing in a band, everybody does don’t they, it’s the rock n roll dream.

3. What’s the best part of being a music player in the live house? And the worst? ;)

Lomax: Its all top, if you’ve got a stage and a good sound with some eager beavers on the dance floor it’s bliss, complete bliss. In the old days we had some pretty bleak gigs, it’s the way it is, empty venues, misery arse sound engineers and warm beer.

4. How long have you been a Lomographer (or are you new to this whole thing)?

Lomax: Very new to it all but it’s a cool concept, very important I think.

5. How did you like shooting with the LC-Wide ? And Please describe the LC-Wide in five words.

Lomax: Big balls and fanny hair….yeah its been good im yet to get the films developed but was loving running around snapping all the good shit.

6. Any funny or strange encounters you’ve had with it?

Lomax: I will let you know when the pictures come back!

7. Who influenced your life most? Why? (would be nice to have sharing with all the members: Lomax (Vocals), Chris (Lead Guitar), Phil (Rhythm Guitar/Vocals), Dave (Bass) and Mutchy (Drums))

Lomax:
For me it was all about Liam Gallagher, he came along and it was like I was in his band even before I had sung a note or looked at a guitar. It’s important to have heroes especially when you’re growing up, things might’ve turned out very differently for me. I didn’t have the confidence and conviction to follow my dreams when I was very young for one reason and another. I spent a lot of time on the receiving end of the punches, but that changed dramatically. He really did give me all the permission I needed to go for it and fuck the consequences. Believe in yourself.

Chris (boon) Owen:
Musically, I started playing guitar becauase of Noel Gallagher and Oasis in ‘97 when be here now came out. Can’t really describe how and why but until that point I only ever wanted to be a professional footballer. Oasis led me onto listening to Beatles and Led Zep, now I love Jamie Hince (The Kills) setup.

Outside of music I’ve been lucky to have supportive friends and family. My dad always wanted me to be a footballer but when I changed my mind he (and my mum) has always backed me up, through thick and thin and get down to gigs as much as they can

Mutchy:
Who influenced my life the most? Probably the drummer ‘buddy rich’. I can watch him for hours. There hasn’t been anyone as good as him and that inspired me to pick up the sticks.

8. Tell us the most heart-warming moments that have happened in your world live tour so far?

Lomax: Heart-warming? We’ll have the readers in tears! All that ever matters when it comes down to it is the shows, you cant get a better feeling than a crowd of beaming faces reaching out to you, that’s all the heart warming we need. Signing stuff and having photos with fans will always blow my mind too.

9. What is the definition of analogue lifestyle to you?
Lomax: To see things as they truly are

10. What’s the hands-down greatest Lomographic experience you’ve ever had?
Lomax: Our first show in Beijing two weeks ago for Britain Rush, the worst rain for 60 years or something, very bad! Beautiful photographs on display with rain pouring down the walls, but still people came, and these people didn’t just stroll down the road, they must have had a horrific journey and could easily have stayed at home, but they didn’t which proves people will do extraordinary things for art.

11. If you could teleport right now to anywhere in the world with your camera and a bag full of film, where would you go and why?
Lomax: Well if I could teleport to a place I can teleport to a time, I want to be in London during the sixties, running around like Austin Powers snapping all the blondes and chasing Mick Jagger, just because it would be a grand day out.

12. If you could photograph anything in the world (person, place, moment, whatever) what would it be?
Lomax: David Cameron stepping in dog shit, I need that on my wall.

13. Tell us something about what you’ve been doing lately, like your latest project and your future plans?
Lomax: Right now we are bringing more to our live shows, we have the ability to put samples and sound bites to our set, this gives us more dimensions to the whole experience, there will be a bigger visual element using projectors and film, we want to offer the best experience outside of the majors possible and I don’t think were far off.
