I’m glad to introduce our newest LomoAmigo, Adam Liew, otherwise known as mont0417. He loves to see things from every possible angle. Don’t know what I mean? Find out how Adam does it as he is this week’s Community LomoAmigo!

Tell us about yourself. What do you do for a living? What are your interests?

Hello everyone! I’m Adam and I’m currently a masters research student. I fell in love with Lomography and photography since I bought my first Lomo toy camera, the Holga 135

I used to love to sing. Now, in addition to singing, I love film photography.

Why did you choose mont0417z as your nickname?

It was originally registered as an ID in a forum a few years ago. Originally, I wanted to use “mountain” as my ID, but it was chosen by someone else — so the computer generated “mont0417” for me. I’ve been using it ever since and I quite like the nickname. I guess it’s grown with me.

How long have you been a Lomographer and how did you find out about the Community?

Two and a half years. Actually, I never realized the existence of Lomography until I failed to expose my first roll of film. From what I remember, only seven out of the 36 turned out alright! Afterwards, I was Googling about photography and I found the Lomography official website — a fantastic website to let people around the world share their Lomo pictures, experiences and reviews. The website solved all of my problem, and of course, I registered myself to be one of the members.

What Lomography cameras do you use and which is your absolute favourite?

Of course, Lomo LC-A and the Lomo LC-A+ are my all time favouites! However, lately, I’ve fallen in love with the Belair X 6-12 City Slicker. Psst, Lomography, do you think I can get a advance on my Belairgon 90mm f/8 Lens shipment? I can’t wait any longer!

We see you love taking pictures of everything and anything, from shoes, to cats, to people — what’s your favorite subject to photograph?

Aha! You just mentioned it! I love to shoot everything and anything. As long as something catches my eye, I will never let it go. I love to shoot with different angles for every object: vivid color objects, pets and people. It’s one of the reasons why I found Lomographers so creative! Do you agree?

Is there a film you like best?

Erm, I loved them all! The sad thing is that there aren’t many films available in Malaysia. Otherwise, I would test and use them all! Although, if I had to choose, I would have to crown my favorite as the Kodak Elitechrome ED 200 35mm… or maybe the LomoChrome… or AgfaPhoto CT Precisa? Or the Fuji Provia 100F 35mm! I just can’t decide! I just love them all, haha.

If you had to choose one picture, which one would be your favourite?

I would have to choose the picture taken inside a tunnel at DanShui, Taiwan. I used the Lomo LC-A and Lomography Redscale XR 50-200 35mm as my bullet. This picture motivated and boosted my confidence.

Tell us the most unforgettable, strangest, funniest, or worst photographic/Lomographic encounter you have ever had.

There was once, I took my Lomo Lomo LC-A+ to an exhibition. I had a great time taking pictures and finishing the roll without any problems. When I was ready to change to a new roll of film, I opened the back and I found out my Lomo LC-A+ was empty without any film inside. Hmmm… I guess this is the drawback to having too many cameras!

If you could photography anyone, living or deceased, who would it be?

Mona Lisa. I always wondered how she would look in a picture if I played with cross processing my film or experimenting with double exposures!

If you could bring your cameras and film anywhere in the world right now, where would you go and why?
I would bring my Lomo LC-A+ and Belair X 6-12 City Slicker to Japan and India. I would love to travel Japan since I’ve never been there before. It think it’s an interesting country – I wish I could travel there soon in future.

For India, I would like to take a lot street photography of India, capturing the moments and the interesting scene. Since the Lomo LC-A+ is so small, it will be an advantage to shoot street photography. And the seemingly panoramic 6-12 format for the Belair X 6-12 City Slicker is miraculous – it make your pictures look awesome.

What tips and tricks would you share for new Lomographers?

Always bring your Lomo camera with you – anytime and anywhere! When something interests you or catches your eye, pull out your nifty gadget and shoot! Most Lomography cameras are light weight, and shouldn’t be a burden for you to carry :)
