Lomographer earlybird Shows Us His Best Belair X 6-12 Test Shots Using The New 35mm Back!

German film photographer Hannes—better known as @earlybird in the community—took the brand new 35mm back for the Belair X 6-12 for a spin and we are blown away by the beautiful images! What were your first thoughts when you found out about Lomography’s 35mm Back for the Belair X 6-12?
My first thought when they asked me if I want to test a new secret Belair X 6-12 accessory was that it could be a 35mm back so I wasn’t surprised when the packet arrived! I think it is a great way to take pictures with the Belair X 6-12 and save some money because 35mm film is much cheaper than medium format 120 film.

How did you find the installation of the accessory to the Belair X 6-12? Did you have any trouble with it?
It fits very well! Putting the 35mm back on the body takes only a few seconds and you are ready to shoot!

What film/s did you use with the Belair X 6-12 equipped with its 35mm Back? Which of these do you think produced the best results when paired with the Belair?
I used Black and White, Color Negative and Slide films. They all worked well and every film has its own charm. So it is up to you, depending on what results you want to get.

Given your experience with the new accessory for the Belair X 6-12, what kinds of subjects do you think this combination suits best?
I love taking portraits! So my thoughts were, what kind of portraits can I take with the 35mm back? I think landscapes are a great possibility too because of the panorama frame size.

What was it like shooting with the amazing extra-long panoramic format for the Belair?
You have a lot of space to fill! So for me it is a great opportunity to make mulitple exposure portraits. You can even capture a whole person in vertical position easily in one single shoot. And we all know that sprockets are great to get a special film character in your photo.

Do you have any tips and tricks for those who want to try out this analogue combination?
Don’t forget that the viewfinder is made for medium format. So you have to make some adjustments so you don’t miss important elements in the photo. And when you scan your film at home, a 35mm Digitaliza is a must-have so the sprockets are included in the shots.

Lastly, in 5 words, how would you describe the whole experience of shooting with the 35mm Back for the Belair X 6-12?
Long, Light, Fun, Sprockets, Easy
