Tell us about Sapan and how the band started.

Sapan has been active since 2010. I met with Hikmet on the internet. He was looking for a guitarist for his old group and when I responded to his ad and our adventure began. Cihan also was part of the group very quickly. And Tahsin joined last year.

Do you like analogue photography? What excites you the most?

It is quite pleasant. I wasn’t very interested in photography before. I took photos with my mobile phone without much thought. It might be related to my inexperience with film, but the fact that an analogue photos has a surprise element and the result being not totally predictable excited me a lot.

Do you use other analogue stuff such as notebooks, records and the like?

I had a notebook where I wrote poetry and lyrics but for a while but I can’t say I do either of them any more. Many of my guitar effects pedals are analogue.

You took videos with LomoKino. If you were to describe LomoKino in a few words, what would they be?

Traces of the past.

You had a chance to try LC-A+. What do you like about it?

It’s easy to use. Sometimes I felt like a secret agent browsing the street.

Which photos do you like most?

Subway photo which is taken using multiple exposure technique.

Do you think there is a relation between photography and music?

Both of them are transmitters of memories. Photography captures a moment that has a past and present and shrinks it into the blink of an eye, whereas music spreads the feeling born from a moment to another period of time.

Do you have any new projects?

For now, we’re working on video shoot projects for some songs. In the summer, we might record acoustic versions of some songs. However, there is nothing planned for now.

Where would you want to be and what would you like to do right now?

I would like to be on stage in a festival abroad.

Which popular culture icon would you like to photograph the most?

Diane Kruger.

Thanks for the interview, Baykal!
