Yael, Lomography NYC's Lab Manager and her Instant Experience

Here at the Lomography NYC Gallery Store, we are always testing and playing with our cameras and accessories. We asked our staff to test the new Lomo’Instant camera. This time Yael, our lab manager, shared a few pictures shot around her personal life.

Hi Yael. How was your experience with the Lomo’Instant camera?

I’ve been obsessed with instant cameras for quite some time now. I have a box full of those little photos, taken whenever the opportunity arose- usually friends gatherings or vacations. So when the Lomo’Instant came out I was not only excited to try it, but also curious to see if it would feel/be any different than my ancient little Fuji cam.

I found the Lomo’Instant extremely easy to use. There is really no room for mistakes, too, as a friendly user guide is conveniently placed right at the bottom of the camera.. You know, just in case you left your user manual at home (let’s be honest, no one ever reads those).

What’s your favorite feature?

What I loved the most about the camera is that it offers a variety of ways to get creative and make your instant photos super unique. My favorite was the option for Bulb- long exposures. Take your camera outside at night (the cold is not an excuse), place it on a tripod or any steady surface, and take a long exposure… Highway traffic, light painting, anything really.

Any tip you’d like to share?

I’d recommend avoiding big, dark interiors, since the Lomo Instant needs a good amount of light and you will need an exposure of at least five minutes for that. But if you’re the patient type, then you should totally go for it!
