Hi Tom, tell us about yourself.

My name is Tom and I’ve been shooting film for three years now. I first got involved with Lomography in Manchester where I helped build a public Lomowall. I then worked part time at the now sadly closed Manchester Gallery Store. I’ve since worked with the team in Shanghai and London.
I’m a chronic expat who has been living in different countries since the age of 13. I keep a blog where I write about my travels and upload my photos too.a-ticket-to-ride.tumblr.com

Why did you choose to shoot film?

I first started shooting after discovering Henri Cartier Bresson at university. He shot film so I decided to do the same. Film feels real to me whereas digital always feels like imitation. I also love the rituals of film photography; loading and developing rolls etc. It makes me take care when shooting instead of firing the shutter 100 times and just picking the best.

How was your experience with the LC-A 120?

I absolutely loved the LC-A 120. I don’t usually use 120 film because can be difficult to handle and I usually mess it up. The LC-A 120 made things really easy thanks to the light meter and easy focus settings. (this is why I love the 35mm LC-A too). I’m really glad the camera included a multiple exposure button. The button is next to the shutter too which is great because it can be used with a tripod to create ghost portraits. I also shot a role of 35mm slide film using the Lubitel spools. (There are loads of tipsters on how to do this kind of thing.)

What’s in store for you in the next 12 months?

Right now I’m exploring London and trying my hand at phone photography (always shooting on a film camera as well!). I’m hoping to set off again next year to Tokyo or possibly South Korea to teach English again. Those places are always a haven for street photographers.
