City of Arts and Sciences by Night

When it comes to capturing the beauty of the City of Arts and Sciences at night, all you need is your LCA and a good supply of film! While this is a popular tourist attraction, it’s much advisable to pay it a visit at night when you can finally have it all to yourself.

A lot of things have already been said about the iconic buildings by Santiago Calatrava, otherwise known as the City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia. However, there’s still much to be discovered here. Try to time your visit after dark, once you’ve had your fill of tapas; once the place is already completely empty. This way, you can take your time in doing long exposures with your Lomography camera of choice.

During my visit, I had my LCA with me; while I didn’t get to do a lot of long exposures at that time, it’s up to you if you want to make the most of your time there, remember, the whole complex will practically be all yours at that time! It leaves you a lot of time to experiment!

Aside from walking around, taking pictures using the long exposure function, and picking up bitter oranges from the floor, you can also visit the L’Hemisfèric – a spectacular building designed by Santiago Calatrava. The building represents a huge human eye – the eye of wisdom and basically symbolizes the observation of the world. The L’Hemisfèric opened in 1998 and was the first section in the City of Arts and Sciences complex. The inner area includes the “Carl Sagan” Perimeter Ring which was named in honour of the great American communicator. Meanwhile, the 24,000-sqm ornamental lake that surrounds this structure adds an extraordinary beauty to the area.

Inside, there is a 360-degree projection hall. Last screening is at 9pm, so if you’re in the mood for a relaxing way to end a long day, go and see one of the amazing films about the Amazon River, Nile River, Arabia or Africa. We went to see the one on the Amazon River and my little niece kept asking, who was moving our seats (although it was actually the screen which moved).Watching a movie here only costs 7.50 euros per adult.
