A Year in Square of Erin Woodgate

1

If she can count them correctly, one square would not suffice all the things she has this year. Curious to know what are they? Erin will gladly enumerate them to you!

A few months ago, our Lomo Amigo Christophe Dillinger had teamed up with us in pursuit of publishing Square Magazine's new book and asked everyone in the Lomographic community to show one’s year in squares. A kind of a competition that calls for images strictly taken with the format we’re all familiar with – the square, each attached with stories of the photographers has to tell.

Now, 6 names are already shortlisted and one of them is Erin Woodgate and this is her story:

The series that I am submitting to the Square magazine/Lomography project’s the year in square is one that i have recently completed which bring the objects collected from the past year together and making it one coherent series. All shot using natural light with a Holga on 120 film. This past year has been full of ups and downs and I have collected the objects that represent each major event, time, place or persons who have sculpted the past year of my life.

1. Winter – A Canadian winter is VERY different with an Australian winter. I always lived on the edge of loving and hating every minute.

2. Kittens – My roomates found a cat on a balcony on New Year and named her Juliet, in February she brought 4 cute kittens into the world which will forever give me great memories. On the same night Juliet brought them into the world my Romeo came into mine.

3. Cuba – After only being together for two months with Cameron we went on a package holiday to Cuba,
something I never thought I would do. I’m much more for hostels and exploring a new city every other day than sitting in a pool with a swim up bar but I’m always up for new experiences!

4. Graduation – Cameron graduated with the highest honors and even though I wasn’t with him to see him through his degree I felt so much pride to see him up there getting it. It was something I was never able to do because I left the country before my graduation.

5. Dress up parties – Every other weekend at the townhouse there would be a party, and if I got my way it would be a dress-up party of some kind.

6. Canada Day – When this day came around I knew my time in Canada was drawing to a close. The plan was to go to Europe and explore for the summer then live and work in Ireland.

7. Cameron – changed all of those plans. and I couldn’t be happier.

8. The countdown – We made every moment count, no matter who it was with or where it was we lived it large.

9. Chanel – My best friend and roommate, one of the reasons I moved back to Canada in the first place after finishing my degree. These objects now make me sad and happy. It seems it’s true what they say, you shouldn’t live with best friends.

10. Europe – I travelled with friends, family and alone through 5 countries in 3 months. A lot of money has been taken out of the bank account and this is what I have to show for it. Its a shame that a memories can’t be objects because there wouldn’t be enough room in the frame.

11. New Home – Now in London, Ontario Canada living, working, loving.
