Nikon N6006: The Beast from '91
3 14 Share TweetFor 1991 this camera had all of the new technologies of the top of the line cameras. Today, 20 years later, it still is a spectacular and dependable camera.
I call her ‘Coco’. She belonged to my father, but when he found out I was into analog photography he offered to lend it to me, and the poor chap hasn’t seen it since, because I have not stopped using it!
The camera has the possibility for Auto-Focus and Manual focus. It has a light meter that works with variable shooting modes. It has Programmed Auto (P or Pm), Shutter-Priority (S), Aperture-Priority (A), or Manual (M). It has variable shutter speeds from 1/2000 to 30s. It automatically reads the ISO from 25 to 5000 but it can also be assigned manually from 6 to 6400. The film advances automatically every time a photo is taken, and when it’s over and it ’s time to rewind the film, with pressing two buttons the camera automatically rewinds the film. It has a self-timer from 2 seconds to 30 seconds. It also has exposure compensation from +/- 5 EV range in 1/3 EV steps.
What I love most about this camera is the simplicity of the automatic shooting modes. Aside from providing the freedom of manual settings, it also allows for variable options to let the camera decide the correct exposure for you, and achieve completely reliable results. I also love the sharpness and the contrast in depth of field that produces in the pictures.
And now I’ll let the photos do the rest of the talking. =)
