Go On a Holiday Using Local Disposable Cameras!

9

Leave your analogue cameras at home! Single use disposable cameras are ideal for backpackers and people wishing to travel light, and they take great photos!

We, as hardcore Lomographers, live by the Number 1 Golden Rule of Lomography: Take your camera everywhere you go. And as hardcore Lomographers, most of us have more than one camera. So when it comes to packing for a holiday, which camera to bring along is always the biggest question. Packing only 1 set of clothes but 6 different cameras for a week long holiday becomes a norm.

Hence, for my last holiday, I was keen on making a change, I left for Europe without any of my cameras with me! The whole idea was to buy disposable film cameras at every new town/country I arrive at. It will be like buying souvenirs, but only not as cheesy.

Before departing from London Stanstead Airport, I bought two Boots Essentials Single Use cameras from the pharmacy to photograph my journey to my first destination, which is Venice.

Finding disposable cameras is very easy in Venice. There were plenty of camera/film processing shops which sell mainly digital devices and also a small selection of film cameras while providing film processing services.

And of course, most of them do sell Kodak disposable cameras (Kodak Fun Saver). It was the same in other parts of Italy, every souvenir shop/stall sells Kodak disposables.

One of the major advantages of disposables is it being very ‘disposable’. Whenever one is finished, I would go to the nearest 1-hour processing shops to get it processed and I would buy a new one on the spot to carry on shooting. It is ideal for backpacking or anybody wishing to travel as light as possible.

Also, I don’t have to be careful with it. I often throw it in my backpack and not worry about crushing it because I don’t love it as much as the other ones I left back home.

Never underestimate disposables! They take great pictures too!

Note: Every photo in this article is taken with a disposable camera.

Nice pictures. I didn't bring my lomo babies to a camp but used a waterproof camera because I did not want to kill them. I hope the pictures turn out well. Wish me luck!
