Foamlabbers as Lomo Amigos #5: Jerry

Seven young photography fans in one creative team – meet our newest Amigo’s Foam Lab. Rosa got the ball rollin’. Erik, Eelke and Liset were the next in line. Now it’s time for number 5 in the series – please meet Jerry Celie!

Tell the community a little bit about yourself? What do you do for fun and is it the same thing you do for a living?
Hi, I’m Jerry, I’m 22 years old and the youngest of Foam Lab. I like to eat a ‘broodje kroket’ (a dutch specialty sandwich) and ride my bike in Amsterdam. Ironically, I earn my money by taking care of old people in a nursing home. I work there as a food consultant (not as cool as it sounds though). In my spare time I like to watch movies, preferably French cinema.

How long have you been a Lomographer or are you new to this whole thing?
A couple of birthdays ago a friend gave me the Diana Mini so Lomography wasn’t entirely new. However, every lomo camera is different and has its own results. It was always a surprise how the pictures turned out.

What does an average day of Jerry look like?
I don’t really have average days and I don’t even have an agenda, so everyday when I wake up it’s a surprise. At least two days a week I’m at Foam Lab working on our events and projects. I just got my bachelors degree in Communications and lately I’m thinking about another education in graphic design.

You take excellent snapshots! How do you capture such snapshots and would you like to reveal your secret snapshot method?
When I see remarkable or funny things I just take it out and shoot. A while ago I saw a big sausage holding a door. I still regret not taking a picture of that. Also, sometimes I tend to use double lighting to make one picture with little detail, and another one with a lot to blend them together.

How was your experience using Lomography cameras, and what did your friends say about your analogue camera’s and pictures?
To be honest, at first I was a bit sceptic but that changed immediately when I got my first film developed. The pictures had a lot of colour and a good analogue feel. My friends where the most enthusiastic about about the Spinner, probably because of its cool looks.

What was the strangest, funniest, or hands-down greatest photographic/Lomographic encounter you had while doing the series?
The pictures I took in Paris when I went to visit my girlfriend who lived there for two months. Paris is this kind of city where everything is so beautiful, you want to capture everything. And so I did.

If you had to choose, which is your favorite photo form the selection and why?
The picture I took of the other Foam Lab people hanging out the window. It’s got this really nice pure feel about it, I think because I took it just before they thought I was going to

What else is on the agenda for you? Anything you are looking forward to you would like to share?
Of course were ending this year of Foam Lab with an answer to the question What’s Next? at Foam. I don’t know what comes next, I tend to make decisions at the last minute whenever they feel right. Just as I did with Foam Lab, which I’ve never regret.

Any advice for future lomographers?
Always make sure you have enough film with you! You never know what you’ll see.
