Mad Color Light Painting Tricks For The Lomo'Instant

Light painting is such an intriguing and fascinating technique. Using your Lomo'Instant, you can actually use common household objects to create stunning and colorful light painted pictures while having lots of fun!

I spontaneously decided to give color light painting with my Lomo'Instant a try at a party. We used whatever we could find as a source of light, and here are the results of my experiment!

You will need:
Lomo' Instant - Color Filters (Included in the Lomo'Instant package) - A mobile phone with a torch ( the vast majority of smartphone have this feature) - Flash (External to flash your subject before painting) - Sparklers-Flashing ring -Or any other source of light you can find

Telephone
Your mobile phone torch is an incredibly precise and fantastic source of light for light painting. Not to mention that is pretty much always available. You can choose one color gelatin filter and tape it on the torch on the back of your phone. Set the camera on long exposure (B) and C mode without flash, flash your subject and then draw whatever you like!

Pink Magic
What if you want to use a color but you don't have the right filter? No problem, you can create it!
We wanted to make the color pink, so we used an iblazr flash and we taped on two filters. Red + blue : booooom magic pink happened!
Below you can compare pictures taken with a pink filter on the torch of the mobile phone and the one with the iblazr (red+blue filters)

If you like it put a ring on it
We happened to have a flashing party ring. I really like this dotted effect and it's an easy tool to use if the subject needs to paint by themselves.

Let it Sparkle
For parties during the holiday season, sparklers are always a must. So don't miss the chance to use to it to create incredible shoots. You'll need three people for the best results, 1 photographer, 1 subject and 1 artist! Shoot with your camera (B setting, Creative Mode C without flash), Flash your subject (you can use a colorful flash (we used a La Sardina flash with its own filters on), light your sparkler and then start drawing around your subject! There are also colorful sparklers on the market too.

In conclusion, I would say that my favorite unconventional tool was the combination of mobile torch + filters, because it produces a very precise and intense colorful light, as well as being always available and ready!
