Elliott Bay Book Store

This is the most interesting bookstore i have ever been to, full stop! I have been to many booksellers, but they are mostly very specified. Good in one thing, but lacking in many other things.

I have the impression that this book-temple has it all what I ever desired: First of all it looks really old with its wooden floor, wooden stairways and wooden ceilings. It gives the whole a lot of atmosphere and an organic touch, and since books are made off trees this very much is fitting the picture. The store is huge and has several layers. On the ground floor it is spreading over a long territory having separate areas dealing with different genres. There are little sheets with handwritten notes by the employes with a short overview.

There is also a wooden shelf with the recommendations by the employees, who are actually quite young. I could very good imagine people falling in love with each other there, because the ones who read books are rather interested in life in general and have an intellectual background, more or less. There is a café in the basement and you most certainly can take your books there. Basically you could spend your whole day in Elliott’s bookstore and I am sure that many do so. In the back, very far from everything there is, like in a fairy tale, a big antiques section with really old books. But there are also catchy cheap novels with funny covers, which I liked very much. Close by there is also a big section for graphic books and even Comics and Mangas, which ought to be special. The variety of mangas is otherwise quite poor in the states. Besides all the books they offer funny gadgets as well. I bought a fitness-set: “have a great body in ten steps”, which had the look of the sixties with an iconic bodybuilder on the yellow cover. I also bought a notebook, which was recycled from floppy discs and a clock, which counted backwards the time of George Doubleju still in office. and hey it is almost over now! You can find Elliott Bay Book Store on 101 South Main Street.
