Diet!

Tell the community a little bit about yourself? What do you do for fun and is it the same thing you do for a living?
Hello, my name is Diet. 30 years old. I live on an island and my entire life I wish to be Italian. I am madly in love, enjoy to cook, eat and drink with my family and friends. Big passion for photography and enjoy being on the beach. Also I like to sport. In daily life I am a host at pop venue Paradiso, supervise production students and consult cultural organizations. Oh, and recently I try to get green fingers with the result that my balcony is full of plants right now.

How long have you been a Lomographer or are you new to this whole thing.
Honestly, Lomography is new to me. I didn’t know the camera’s, even though am shooting analogue photo’s for a long time. It’s a great new world to me!

How does an average day of Diet look like?
Around 08.30 I wake up. Make coffee, eat fruit and ‘ontbijtkoek’ which I am addicted too. Each day is different for me. Some days I work at the office of Paradiso, other days I have appointments for small jobs. Sometimes I’m free during the day due to important meetings in the evening. I love to cook for friends and enjoy being outside as much as I can. Last but not least – I am a fashion freak, therefore I need to shop every once in a while.

You take excellent snapshots! How do you capture such snapshots?
To look, look and look. Sometimes I become crazy of myself. I see everything! If I’m too late after seeing a beautiful possibility, the frustration is coming up. I see, I shoot and judge as less as possible.

Boy with girls

How did you like shooting with the Lomo LC-A+ and the Diana Mini and what did your friends think about your analogue cameras?
Both Lomo cameras were a surprise to me. The Diana Mini wasn’t my friend from the start. It’s such a different way of shooting compare to the digital way of photography I am used too. After two rolls we fortunately became friends. The LC-A+ is my love. The usibility and sensibility is just great. It makes me able to capture anything that pops up in my eye, without a problem. But still, I am absolutely in this ‘learning stage’.

A nice qoute of my friends: "Films?? Can you still purchase them these days??
Everyone around me sympathises a lot. They are following me and my photos and post great comments on a regular base.

What was the strangest, funniest, or hands-down greatest photographic/Lomographic encounter you had while doing the series?
Mainly the fun and pleasure while shooting the series. Sometimes I made dangerous acrobatic movements to grab my camera and still be able to capture the picture. (Cycling, camera in my bag, etc.)

If you had to choose, which is your favorite photo of your selection and why?
The woman carrying her sandwiches on her bicycle and the double exposure of the woman wearing this orange fluorine jacket at the construction site. The first one because it’s such an innocent picture. A picture of a woman who must have thought in the morning: “Let’s take a few sandwiches along the way today”. Second one because it’s such an exciting photo. The double exposure just hits two great shots on one frame.

If your photo selection should get a soundtrack, what would it be? (3 tracks & artists please)
Oeph, that’s a difficult question. I’d go for music of Erik Satie, Prince with ‘Power Fantastic’ and maybe Björk with ‘One Day’.

What else in your agenda is coming up? Anything you are looking forward to you would like to share?
There are a number of spectacular installations of Love in the City coming up in Paradiso. The ‘Indiestad’ festival and several other theater festivals are scheduled, as well as many concerts where I will be attending. Also, I’ll visit the Arnhem Fashion Biennale, and will shoot some great shots at Valtifest. Not to forget hanging on the beach as much as possible of course!

Your advice to future Lomo LC-A+ and Diana Mini shooters is?
Just let go of the rules. Shoot straight from your feeling. Trust your eyes, trust what you see and don’t judge your photograph.
